Christmas with "Cackins"

This Christmas we drove to Manhattan...
Manhattan, Kansas to visit for a week with our good friends. Everyone had a great vacation, and it was very relaxing.

We almost took it as an omen not to go when Saturday morning at 5:30 AM, the van wouldn't start. This problem only delayed us by about 10 minutes. We left the 70 degree weather in Austin and arrived in Manhattan about 11 hours later to find the temperature at a whopping 11 degrees (not counting the wind chill).

Needless to say that the kids spent a lot of time indoors...

Some Girls are finding S irresistable...

And S hasn't learned how to say no.

On Christmas Eve, S couldn't take it anymore - he had to be outside. Even if it was only 20 degrees!
A few minutes later, he realized how tall this ladder is and how slippery Ice can make things.

Christmas morning, we made the kids wait at the top of the stairs until everyone was ready.

Friday things warmed up to about 70 degrees (and really windy). We went and toured Fort Riley Army base. S loved to look at the tanks and trucks - we also visited the Cavalry museum.

Fort Riley also had an old locomotive that the kids could play on - complete with moving levers!

Thanks for the updates. What a range in temperatures! 11 degrees and then 70. That's even starker than when we left Utah to go to Kauai, and you did it without changing location!

And I'm guessing by the innuendo that S discovered just how slippery the ladder was by personal experience. Apparently nothing too serious.
